CHARADE by Nyrae Dawn

I have two thoughts on this story. I didn’t really like how it began. The whole “pretend to be my boyfriend to make my ex-boyfriend jealous for money” was just – YUCK! BUT, and that’s a BIG BUT, the rest of the story was tremendous. This is the story of Cheyenne and Colt. Cheyenne is desperate to show the world she has survived her cheating boyfriend. Colt’s mother has always wanted her son to attend college. Colt is attending to give his mother her dying wish. Together, they find a way to help one another and fall in love. I always enjoy alternating POVs because I believe it really shows off both characters, and gives them incredible depth. I wasn’t completely head over heels in love with either character, but together they were sensational. I don’t want to give away any part of the ending, but I wasn’t crazy about the Colt and Gregory storyline. I wished it had ended with the kids taking the advice from Colt’s mother, and then moving on to the epilogue. Overall, Ms. Dawn writes about a difficult subject of Cancer and the emotional toll it takes on the caregiver with a beautiful voice.
